We've grown quite fond of this Hardanger fiddle crafted by C.L. Tangen. Thanks to its wider body, it produces a deep and rich sound without compromising clarity or sweetness. The visual features that stand out on this instrument are the hand-drawn rosing and the exquisite white mother-of-pearl decorations, creating a striking contrast against the brown varnish.

The label inside reads, "Handmade by C.L. Tangen, 1939" in English, which seems to suggest that this might have been made during the time when this maker was living in Canada.

This fiddle has four understrings.

Christopher Larsen Tangen was born in Sigdal. In 1929, he emigrated to the USA, like many from Sigdal. He eventually settled down in a cabin in British Columbia where this fiddle was made. It is uncertain how many fiddles this maker made or if he had any formal training. He passed away in 1971.
